The best wedding photographs are the ones nobody noticed being taken.

We come from a documentary habit of working: watch first, move second, and never interrupt something that is already good on its own. A grandmother reaching for a hand, the pause before a father speaks — none of that survives being directed.

That does not mean standing back all day. There is a portrait session, there are family groups, and there is a point in the evening where everyone needs someone to say where to stand. We do that quickly and warmly, then get out of the way again.

What you get back is a record of the day as it actually felt — not a set of pictures that could have come from anyone's wedding.
